In 2010 I became a grandmother. It took all of about ten minutes after first greeting little Henry B. for me to try and figure out who he was by raising a viewfinder to my eye. Over the years Henry has been joined by two sisters. All three of these kids have, for better or worse, become accustomed to G-Lo (that’s me) pulling out her camera whenever she comes to visit.

This ongoing series of photographs addresses the elusive, the enigmatic, the transcendent and the poetic instances that happen all around me when I am in the presence of my grandchildren. So much of the wonder experienced during my all-too-fleeting moments with them can easily be overlooked or dismissed if I’m not careful. The challenge, in this project as in any other, is to seek out the seemingly mundane occurrences, bring them to light and then render them extraordinary and beautiful and haunting and sad and celebratory and mysterious. An all the while, I get to be photographer and grandmother, roles that I'm very lucky to play.
