I'm beginning a personal project about adolescent boys navigating their way toward the precipice of adulthood.
There are so many confusing messages directed toward young people these days, and while there has been much attention paid recently to how girls experience this time, little has been devoted to the boy's perspective. My plan is to make portraits of 11 - 13 year-old boys in a setting of their choice, including whatever they want in the picture. These won't be typical smiling portraits, but rather images that speak to something on a deeper and more thoughtful level. In an effort to portray my subjects with honesty and truth, I will likely ask them to write something to accompany their portraits.
I'm just getting started and am looking for participants. I'm beginning close to home, so if you know of someone who might be interested - and who lives in the Pacific Northwest - please let me know!
